Design of Ground Gas and VOC Mitigation Systems

A proposed development on or near land affected by ground gas or VOC emissions must be supported by a risk assessment submitted to the local planning authority by the developer (or his consultant) in order to comply with current planning policy and Building Regulations. Further to assessing the risks, we are often able to show that mitigation measures are not required.

If an elevated risk associated with ground gas has been identified the risk assessment is extended to show how risks will be reduced to an acceptable level by preventative measures and also include proposals for remediation strategies. As development stakeholders have to manage other risks, such as health and safety of construction staff, gas pollution liabilities and financial risks, expert design advice is crucial to the risk management and mitigation process.
