Piling and Penetrative Ground Improvement Methods on Land Affected by Contamination: Guidance on Pollution Prevention

Authored by Amy Juden and Steve Wilson, the latest publication of new guidance, ‘Piling and Penetrative Ground Improvement Methods on Land Affected by Contamination: Guidance on Pollution Prevention’ has been released by CL:AIRE.

The report covers piling and penetrative ground improvement on sites with contamination. It also covers risks to groundwater quality during piling: turbidity and addition of support fluids.

The updated guidance:
☑️ Reflects on how our understanding has improved since original guidance was published back in 2001 following an extensive literature review and industry consultation
☑️ Includes improved descriptions of modern piling and ground improvement techniques
☑️ Provides a reference framework allowing low risk piling methods and scenarios to be quickly screened out This should help consultants (and regulators) to focus the assessment on potential pollution scenarios that are higher risk.
