Phil Williams
BSC (Hons) PGDip CWEM MCIWEM
Director
Phil joined The Environmental Protection Group (EPG) straight from university as a graduate SuDS and FRA engineer, and now leads the business as a Board Director.
Phil is Chartered with CIWEM a member of SusDrain and delivers SuDS training via CIRIA. Passionate about SuDs, blue green infrastructure flood risk and nutrient neutrality, he regularly joins steering committees and co-authors guidance and scientific papers as well as undertaking R&D for new methods of water sustainability.
Phil has extensive experience within the construction sector with particular expertise in sustainable designs for both small-scale development and large area master plans. Since EPG joining STRI Group, Phil has worked on a number of high profile sports projects across the globe, and regularly collaborates with the team on water management in relation to sports surface design.
Steve Wilson

Technical Director
Steve is a Chartered Engineer with over 25 years geotechnical and environmental engineering. He has applied his knowledge of geotechnics and, drainage to the design and construction of sustainable drainage and has helped prepare much of the UK guidance on permeable pavements. He is authors of the CIRIA SuDS Manual and he CIRIA guide on constructing SuDS.
Steve is an experienced speaker and trainer on the subject of sustainable drainage and has delivered training to a number of local authority planning departments to support them when SuDS delivery was brought into the NPPF.
Steve has also been a member of several project steering groups for CIRIA (SUSDRAIN website, CIRIA Report C625 Model agreements for sustainable water management systems and RP 697 SUDS updated guidance on technical design and construction) and HR Wallingford (Use of SUDS in high density developments) relating to sustainable drainage projects.
Dr Jacqueline Diaz-Nieto

Head of Water
Jacqui is a chartered water and environmental manager with CIWEM and graduate member of ICE, and currently working towards becoming a Chartered Engineer.
Committed to tackling urban drainage challenges through innovate thinking and effective stakeholder engagement, Jacqui works relentlessly on design solutions and industry education to contribute positively to the protection of our natural environment.
Jacqui is qualified to doctorate level in environmental and civil engineering and lead author on several peer reviewed publications. With proven expertise in the application of engineering principles and spatial data analytics to develop technical standards and design specifications, Jacqui is well respected in the water industry and spends time sharing her knowledge with her team. She possess a wealth of expert and up to date industry knowledge on sustainable drainage design and is experienced in collaborative working with multi-disciplinary industry experts.
Amy Juden

Head of Geoenvironmental
Amy is a chartered geologist and contaminated land specialist who has been working in the brownfield redevelopment industry since 2012. She has specialist skills in site conceptualisation, geoenvironmental ground investigation, and contaminated land risk assessments.
Amy is passionate about determining the most sustainable (and therefore cost-effective) solutions for development on contaminated sites. She is skilled in a variety of human health detailed quantitative risk assessment techniques including for asbestos in soil, ground gases, radon, and VOC vapour intrusion.
Amy is a specialist in ground gas risk assessment and mitigation design and delivers training for CL:AIRE on ground gas risk assessment, the Geological Society on methane and radon geohazards and is an author of NHBC Foundation Publication N94 Hazardous ground gas – an essential guide for housebuilders.
Amy is currently an active committee member for the Yorkshire Contaminated Land Forum (2023 to present). She was an inaugural committee member of the Geological Society Contaminated Land group, serving for six years (2017 to 2022), a previous SoBRA asbestos-in-soil working group member (2018 to 2021) contributing to their asbestos in soil human health risk assessment guidance. She served three years as a judge for the Brownfield Awards (2021 to 2023) and is a previous winner of Best Young Brownfield Professional (2019).
Leo Phillips

Head of Commercial
Leo is an accomplished geoenvironmental monitoring specialist with over a decade of post-graduate experience, showcasing expertise in the development of industry-leading monitoring techniques, ground investigation specification, project management, construction project oversight and environmental permitting.
His experience spans an array of projects, ranging from national permit compliance landfill contracts to gas extraction initiatives and wastewater treatment upgrades. Leo excels in managing teams deployed to high-risk sites, ensuring the safety of personnel and upholding clients’ responsibilities.
Leo’s environmental sector experience encompasses large-scale sampling and monitoring campaigns, with a focus on water authorities, major infrastructure projects, and waste and aggregates companies. From lone working projects to overseeing catchment-level schemes with budgets exceeding £2 million, Leo has delivered projects of varying size and complexity. His proficiency extends to environmental monitoring scheme design, setup, project delivery, reporting, and continuous improvement across diverse environments, including river catchments, reservoirs, coastal areas, and inland bathing water locations.
Alwyn Hughes

Structural Waterproofing Manager
Alwyn leads the structural waterproofing team at EPG, working with a range of clients to ensure the usability of below ground structures.
He has extensive experience within the construction sector with expertise in structural waterproofing design for small-scale domestic projects and large-scale industrial/residential projects.
Alwyn also works on ground gas protection and venting for projects within the UK and internationally.
