JOB PURPOSE:
The consultant will work from one of the EPG offices or remotely as well as completing site visits.
Delivery of geoenvironmental investigation and assessment projects from start to finish as well as supervision and support on remediation and verification works. Undertaking generic and some detailed ground gas, VOC vapour intrusion, human health, and controlled water risk assessments, and remediation design.
Engagement with clients at an early stage to anticipate their needs and scope and price the required geoenvironmental works for EPG.
Project manager for ground investigation, environmental monitoring or risk assessment projects. Liaising with internal EPG staff and teams, external sub-contractors, analytical laboratories, clients and collaborators as necessary.
EPG will support the professional development of the consultant, providing opportunities to work collaboratively with the wider team to gain experience. Particularly in detailed quantitative risk assessment for gas and VOC vapour intrusion, and in detailed design of ground gas protection measures.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
1. Undertake and manage delivery by others of Phase 1, Phase 2 investigations and risk assessments and remediation strategies and designs.
2. Coordinate geoenvironmental project delivery with internal and external stakeholders to meet project deadlines.
3. Line management and on-the-job training of junior staff.
4. Maintain and develop key client, supplier and regulator relationships, always maintaining EPG’s industry standing as experts in our field, and providers of cost-effective and scientifically robust solutions.
5. Relish opportunities and work proactively when undertaking research in the course of work at EPG. Contribute to, or lead on, development of alternative methods of working, or writing industry publications.
6. Support the wider geoenvironmental team in installing continuous monitoring equipment, completing/supervising investigations, undertaking environmental monitoring work as and when support is required.
7. Support the EPG management team in improvements to our operational practices, in areas of data management, digital software, health, safety, environment and quality, and training and staff development.
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, Chemistry or other related subject.
5 to 10+ years of experience in geoenvironmental/contaminated land sector.
Chartered or be able to demonstrate chartership level competence.
A desire to take a novel approach to problem solving, so you should be excited by the opportunity to develop and employ alternative methods for investigation, assessment, or remedial design.
Practiced in interpreting ground conditions from intrusive site investigation data, assessing data quality and reliability and determining uncertainty.
Competence in understanding ground contamination problems in three dimensions and how these change over time.
Strong competence in generic risk assessments for ground gases, VOC vapour intrusion, human health and controlled waters. Some experience with detailed quantitative risk assessment is desirable.
Excellent word processing and excel skills along with broad IT proficiency. GIS or CAD skills would be desirable.
ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES:
A full UK driving license
Experience in specifying and/or undertaking field monitoring including: ground gas monitoring, groundwater sampling and monitoring, vapour cannister sampling, surface emissions tests, internal space surveys, sub-slab void monitoring, continuous monitoring.
Experience in the detailed design of ground gas or VOC vapour protection systems or structural waterproofing.
Past practical experience of site investigation work or site-based remediation or earthworks supervision.
Experience as a line manager.
A strong external profile and network and/or experience on working groups or committees in the industry.
Experience managing commercial performance of multi-phase consultancy projects.
Reporting to: Amy Juden, Head of Geoenvironmental
Working Hours: Default would be full time, 8:45am – 5pm Monday to Friday
Could consider 4 days per week or flexible working if required for the right candidate
Location: Bingley or Warrington or Basildon or remote (depends on successful candidate)
